Mobilgear SHC XMP Series oils are high performance premium quality, fully synthetic, gear lubricants,
designed to provide optimum component and lubricant life even under extremes of operating conditions.
Mobil’s extensive research into base oil and additives has resulted in a range of lubricants capable of enabling
designers and equipment specifiers to obtain the maximum performance for current and envisaged gear
technology.
These lubricants contain an advanced and carefully balanced additive system which is designed to provide
excellent protection against conventional wear modes such as scuffing but also an improved level of protection
against fatigue related failure such as micropitting.
In addition, the
Mobilgear SHC XMP Series oils provide exceptional oxidation resistance and thermal
properties, thus are suitable for the most arduous of operating conditions. The naturally high viscosity index and
low traction coefficient combine to provide an energy efficient lubricant capable of returning significant
reductions in power consumption in many gear drives when compared to mineral oils.
Mobilgear SHC XMP Series products offer the following benefits:
· Extended component life (both gears and associated bearings)
· Extended lubricant life and drain intervals with consequent reduced maintenance costs
· Reduced energy consumption
· Reduced operating temperatures
· Ability to operate under extremes of temperature
· Easy changeover from mineral oils, no special procedures required
Features | Advantages and Potential Benefits |
Superb protection from micropitting fatigue wear as well as high resistance to traditional scuffing wear | Extended gear and bearing life in enclosed gear drives operating under extreme conditions of load, speed and temperature |
| Reduced unexpected downtime and less maintenance - especially critical for difficult to access gearboxes. |
Excellent resistance to degradation at high temperatures | Extended oil life and drain intervals reduced oil consumption and manpower costs |
Low traction PAO base stocks for improved gear efficiency | Reduced energy consumption and lower operating temperatures |
High viscosity index base stocks reduce viscosity change with temperature | Ability to operate at both high and low temperatures: especially critical in remote applications with no oil heating or cooling |
Excellent resistance to rust and corrosion and very good demulsibility | Smooth, trouble-free operation at high temperatures or in water-contaminated applications |
| Excellent compatibility with soft metals |
Outstanding filter life, even in presence of water | Fewer filter changes and reduced maintenance costs |
Excellent compatibility with common gearbox materials of construction and with mineral-based gear oils | Simple conversion from many mineral products |

Mobilgear SHC XMP Series oils are recommended for all types of enclosed industrial gear drives including
steel on steel spur, helical and bevel gears plus worm gear applications that may employ steel on bronze
metallurgy. They are suitable for a wide range of industrial use and are particularly recommended for any
applications which may be subject to the following operating conditions:
· extremes of temperature
· industries and applications where severe water contamination gives a corrosion risk
· heavily loaded gearboxes with surface hardened tooth metallurgy at risk of micropitting
· e.g. wind turbines or plastic extruder equipment
· environments where control of oil cleanliness through fine filtration is of importance
Selection of lubricant viscosity is based on speed, load, operating temperature and gear geometry for enclosed
spur, helical, bevel and worm gear drives. To simplify the selection procedure Mobilgear SHC XMP Series oils
are manufactured in a wide range of viscosities to meet builder specification requirements.
